Unconscious Nerve Testing

Unconscious Nerve Testing is a method to assess the functioning of the autonomic nervous system (ANS). The ANS has two wings - the Sympathetic Nervous System responsible for the “flight or fight” response and the Parasympathetic Nervous System responsible for “rest and digest”. Optimal health relies on a delicate balance between these two systems.

When we face a stressor, our body responds by increasing heart rate, blood pressure, energy production and release of stress hormones (all functions of sympathetic nervous system). This is a normal process and the problem arises only when the body is not given enough time to recover from these stressors. When our body is under a constant state of stress (excess sympathetic activity), it can lead to the development of various chronic health issues.

Unconscious Nerve Testing detects heart rate changes to various stressors as a measure of Heart Rate Variability (HRV). The greater the heart rate variability, the healthier the heart and the nervous system. Autonomic nervous system weakness is very often a precursor to chronic diseases.
